Leopard Rescue Initiatives

The Leopard currently at ARC is a female. It comes from the North of our country and is far larger than the Cape Mountain Leopard occurring naturally in this area. It was rescued from the canned hunting industry and was found in 2 x 2mt concrete cage.

The area set aside for it consists of a day area, a night area and a smaller area that would be used if the animal needed medical attention. Although the leopard is free to move freely between all 3 areas it prefers to keep to the smaller areas, we believe this is because of the time it spent in the very restricted area.  When rescued he had been force fed and was enormously overweight with his belly touching the ground. This was done purposely by his previous owners to ensure a larger pelt when hunted.
